Earthquake Shakes Southern California
Magnitude 5.2 Quake Felt Widely
A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck near Lamont, California, on Tuesday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The quake was felt as far away as Los Angeles, more than 100 miles from the epicenter.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The quake was centered about 12 miles east-northeast of Taft and occurred at a depth of about 6.2 miles, according to the USGS.
The earthquake was the strongest to hit Southern California since a magnitude 5.5 quake struck the Ridgecrest area in July 2019. That quake caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure.
