Autumn 2025 Arrives

Autumn 2025 Arrives

Autumn Begins on September 22nd

Daylight Saving Time Ends, Leaves Begin to Change

The Northern Hemisphere will officially welcome autumn on Monday, September 22nd, 2025. This marks the astronomical beginning of the season, when the sun crosses the celestial equator and day and night are of equal length. As the Earth's tilt causes the Northern Hemisphere to point away from the sun, daylight hours will begin to shorten. This decrease in sunlight triggers physiological changes in plants, causing the leaves of deciduous trees to turn vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow.

The transition from summer to autumn also signals the end of daylight saving time in many countries in the Northern Hemisphere. On the first Sunday of November (November 2nd, 2025), clocks will be set back one hour, providing an extra hour of morning light and an earlier evening sunset. This adjustment is designed to make better use of natural daylight and conserve energy.

As the autumn season progresses, the leaves on deciduous trees will eventually fall, preparing the plants for the cold winter months ahead. The shorter days and cooler temperatures also bring about changes in human behavior, as people spend more time indoors and engage in fall-related activities, such as pumpkin carving, apple picking, and attending football games.

The arrival of autumn is a reminder of the cyclical nature of the seasons and the beauty of the natural world. As the days grow shorter and the leaves change color, take some time to appreciate the beauty of this transitional time of year.
